Project Overview: We are interested in tracking people in marathons. Unfortunately, the scant availability of free telecommunications networks limits what can be done in this field, so our project is scoped to specifically deal with tracking people who remain in a single, contiguous Wi-Fi hotspot.
We shall undertake this project in conjunction with an engineering senior design group, ENSC28 . The engineering team will develop a tracking chip integrating a microcontroller with a GPS receiver and Wi-Fi adapter. This chip will be worn by the target, and send the target's location to a server. We, the computer science group, shall write the server code, and an Android or iOS application to poll the server, and thus remotely track the target's position.
Our goal is to develop a mobile app to track a human target, with the assumption that the target stays within a Wi-Fi hotspot.
