ENSC34 Takeup Fixture
Team Members: Alex Reid, Jason Burgad, Bryant Robins
Faculty Advisor: J. McCall
Sponsor: FLSmidth
Liaison: Jacque Mostert
Project Overview: FLSmidth’s Spokane Operations office (FLS) designs mobile material handling equipment for the mining industry. The majority of the equipment offered by FLS utilize conveyor belts which require a means to takeup the slack from installation and provide required tensioning during operation. Since weight drives cost, it is FLS’s benefit to provide to the most power dense takeup system possible.
Summary Statement of Project Goal: Document the design specification and design a belt takeup test fixture to meet the defined specification. Team will also build small scale prototype.
Project Deliverables:
1. Detailed project schedule identifying milestones and deliverables.
2. Budget identifying design hours, detailing hours, and purchasing cost.
3. Work break down structure and preliminary drawing register.
4. Review of initial design concepts.
5. Complete design package of chosen concept by projects completion. Package content to include but not limited to:
a. Design calculations and FEA Analysis results
b. Final drawing register and schedule
c. Final SOLIDWORKS models and drawing package in 11 x17 hardcopy & electronic files
d. Complete component buyout list with manufacture, mfgr p/n, and cut sheets
e. ±10% cost estimate to fabricate and assemble by project completion.
Management & Communication Expectations:
1. Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and schedule from start to finish of project. Updated once monthly.
2. Monthly meeting with sponsor.
3. Status reports weekly.
