ENSC36 HVAC Base Design
Team Members: Conner Jensen, Kyle McLaughlin, Brian Cope, Diana Fisher
Faculty Advisor: Sam Shoemaker
Sponsor: Haakon Industries
Liaison: Ryan Leahy
Project Overview: The goal of this project will be to improve upon the base concept designed by a previous design group, which utilizes fasteners in place of welding, and formed sheet metal members to replace structural steel. The design and construction of smaller HVAC equipment that does not contain heavy components can be streamlined to produce a cheaper, lighter, and quicker to build product that still maintains Haakon Industries high quality standards.
Summary Statement of Project Goal: Improve on alternative base design concept produced by previous design group. Reduce overall cost to design and produce.
2) Design and documentation, including 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings of alternative base design. Design to be fabricated in-house and assembled by design group.
3) Detailed analysis of design and construction, including but not limited to: Stress analysis, improvements to design for manufacturability, and deficiencies to target for revision.
4) Financial analysis comparing current base construction to that proposed by senior design group. Identify cost savings opportunities.
Management & Communication Expectations:
1) Project schedule (Gantt chart) delineating project goals for calendar year, updated monthly.
2) Biweekly update of project progress.
3) Monthly meetings with sponsor. Weekly or Biweekly at project kick-off.
